Childhood Obesity Summit 3 November 2016, London

Childhood Obesity Summit - Thursday 3 November
Register Now - Early Bird Rate Expires Friday

Dear Colleague

The UK Governments’ recently published Childhood Obesity Plan fell drastically short of expectations, disappointing health campaigners by failing to deliver on the previously promised “game changing” response and “draconian measures”.

The lack of Regulation in the Plan combined with the shifting political landscape and the uncertainty of Brexit has undoubtedly meant the focus these past few months has been on what isn’t happening and what isn’t good enough instead of on the task in hand and the challenges and opportunities of implementation of what IS in the Plan.

Without doubt, there is very much a need to question and challenge the Plan and to push for additional measures to be included, but it’s also time to look constructively at what is being and what can be done.

The inaugural Childhood Obesity Summit, which takes place in London on Thursday 3rd November, will be opened by Professor Dame Sally Davies and provides a unique and timely opportunity to bring together all stakeholders to discuss what impact the Plan can be expected to have and to explore the opportunities it provides and the opportunities to do more.   Register for your place now.

The Summit has been put together with the help of an expert advisory panel and  includes a truly outstanding line-up of leading experts including Emma Reed, DH, Alison Tedstone PHE, Dr Sarah Wollaston MP, Rosie Boycott London Food Board, Linda Cregan Childrens Food Trust, Sue Davies Which?, Judith Buttriss BNF, Ian Wright FDF, Andrea Martinez BRC and Prof Jonathan Valabhji NHS England – for the full line-up please click here.

The final section, which will be Chaired by Emma Reed from Department of Health, will focus specifically on what’s next, questioning what we can learn from international best practice, looking at how to drive responsible action from industry and considering whether an Obesity Tsar or a framework like the Tobacco Product Directives might be a viable option - don't miss the opportunity to join this important debate and have your perspective heard.  The Summit will be recorded, transcribed and circulated to policymakers and policy influencers.
